St. Michael’s Young Leaders, or SMYL, is a group of young professionals located in the downtown Toronto core who raise funds and awareness on behalf of St. Michael’s Hospital. |
How do I join St. Michael’s Young Leaders?
St. Michael’s Young Leaders are not currently taking applications, but we are always eager to begin discussions for future membership. Email us your resume and cover letter at smyl@smh.ca
Are there requirements to be a member?
Yes. All members of St. Michael’s Young Leaders donate $600 annually to St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation. These funds go directly to the hospital’s areas of greatest need, advancing exceptional care and research for everyone in our community.
Members also attend four quarterly meetings and are committed to fundraising $1,500 each through one of our signature events
How many members are there?
The committee has 50 members.
What are the objectives of St. Michael’s Young Leaders?
Knowledge: To create awareness about St. Michael’s Hospital and to communicate the mission and impact of the hospital.
Connect: To engage a network of young professionals concerned with the short-term and long term fiscal and operational health of the hospital.
Care: To commit our time and energy to efforts which raise awareness and funds for St. Michael’s, with a priority focus on inner city health programs and research.
Fundraising
How do I support a specific event or participant?
To make a donation in support of a fundraiser, please follow these steps:

What do I do with cash or cheque donations?
If you receive a donation by cash or cheque, you can count these “offline” donations towards your fundraising goal! You will need to fill out the Offline Donation Form and mail it to St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation at: St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation - SMYL 30 Bond Street Toronto, Ontario, M5B 1W8 Canada Along with your form, please include donation cheques. If you receive cash donations, we request that you deposit the money and either make out a cheque or send a money order for that same amount to St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation. Once we receive all the necessary information, a tax receipt can be issued to the donor(s). Tax receipts will be issued for donations of $20 and above and in accordance with CRA guidelines. Please allow two to three weeks from receipt of the Offline Donation Form for processing. If you have questions, email smyl@smh.ca or call 416 864 5000. |
Can I use St. Michael’s logo for fundraising posters and other material related to my fundraiser?
Yes. Email us at smyl@smh.ca with your request along with the material you would like to use the “in support of” logo on. |
What is corporate matching?
Many Canadian companies offer corporate matching donation programs in which the company will match donations raised by their employees. Double your fundraising success by checking with your HR or CSR team about a corporate matching program!

Can funds raised through my fundraiser be used to pay for event expenses?
No. Once funds are received through our platform, they are considered donations to St. Michael’s Hospital and may not be used to pay expenses. |
Do I need to customize my fundraising page?
Your fundraising page has been pre-loaded with a default image and text, but customized pages always have a greater impact! Make your page extra special by uploading a photo and writing a personal message about your connection to St. Michael’s Hospital and why you’re inspired to support the cause. |

How are tax receipts issued?
Tax receipts are issued automatically for online donations of $20 or more. For offline donations, please refer to the corresponding FAQ. |
Can a tax receipt be issued for in-kind donations?
Some in-kind donations are eligible for tax receipts. We request you contact St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation to confirm whether an in-kind donation to your fundraiser is eligible for a tax receipt. Please contact community@smh.ca or call 416-864-5000. |
