Michael Lander Memorial Ride

On February 24, 2025, my brother, Michael Lander, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 56 due to previously undiagnosed heart issues. Michael was a deeply committed and much-loved member of his BMTR cycling team on Zwift, riding thousands of kilometres alongside friends, both virtually and out on the open road. Cycling, ultra-endurance, and community were central to who he was.

As we approach the one-year anniversary of his passing, I invite you to join me and BMTR Cares in honoring his memory. Join us online and ride (or run) to the “BMTR LANDER” memorial Zwift created, located just beyond hairpin number seven on the Alpe Du Zwift climb. 

Together with BMTR Cares, I am fundraising for Sports Cardiology Toronto—a cause that reflects Michael’s passion for ultra-endurance sport while helping protect other athletes and families from the same devastating loss.

A core mission of Sports Cardiology Toronto is helping athletes with heart conditions return to play safely, or continue exercising in modified ways when needed. Their multidisciplinary team of cardiologists, exercise physiologists, and kinesiologists provides care that understands both the heart and the athlete.

Their clinical work, in partnership with St. Michael’s Hospital, also drives research into exercise and cardiovascular health, improving screening, advancing knowledge, and working to prevent future tragedy.
